The BEST acting teacher you never heard of: Charles Jehlinger

Charles Jehlinger taught at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts from 1923 until his death in 1952. His students include Gena Rowlands, Ruth Gordon, Spencer Tracy, John Cassavetes, Katherine Hepburn, Kirk Douglas, Edward G. Robinson, Anne Bancroft, William Powell, Garson Kanin, Robert Redford and many others.

Jehlinger refused to write a book or do any publicity for himself, even refusing to have his picture taken. I have only found one photo of him. The article below is something I searched for but I had given up on finding one. But this past week brought me to a chance find of someone mentioning that there was an article. There are no links to it. It is written in the style of the day, and so the language is dated. It was written in 1945.

If you would like to see my first post on Jehlinger, it has direct quotes from numerous movie star autobiographies, as well as quotes from Jehlinger on acting.
